Dean's Message

Welcome to the homepage of the College of Liberal Studies!

This is Yoo-Sun Noh, the Dean of SNU College and the College of Liberal Studies at Seoul National University.

The College of Liberal Studies was established in 2009 with the motto, ” Crossing the boundaries to embrace the future”. Over the past 16 years since its establishment, we have been dedicated to fostering creative and self-motivated global leaders who contribute to the advancement of the human community. In particular, we have focused on providing students with the freedom to choose their majors, offering a variety of academic and extracurricular programs, and leading the student-designed major program to help students develop into self-motivated, creative, and interdisciplinary talents. Students in the College of Liberal Studies are able to choose and complete any major offered by Seoul National University, excluding those related to specialized education programs such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, and Education. Additionally, based on their interests and goals, students can design their own major and choose it as their primary field of study.

Moreover, through the CAMPUS Asia program, students can participate in exchange programs at partner universities such as the National University of Singapore, Peking University, and Rikkyo University in Japan. In these programs, students receive living expenses (approximately 800,000 KRW/month) and free accommodation while studying for at least one semester. Students can also engage in various international exchange programs organized by the College of Liberal Studies, such as the Pan-Asia Student Forum, Global Experience, and the Life Academy program which is supported by the Dongwon Yookyoung Foundation. Additionally, students can participate in various career development programs such as the SNU in the World Program (SWP), exchange student programs, domestic and international volunteer programs run by the SNU SR, and internships provided by the SNU Career Development Center.

With the establishment of SNU College in March 2025, the 50th anniversary of the relocation to the Gwanak Campus and the Seoul National University’s integration, students in the College of Liberal Studies and Open Major also became part of SNU College. As SNU College is responsible for the overall operation of the common educational curriculum and leads educational innovation at Seoul National University, it means that students in the College of Liberal Studies will now have access to a broader and more systematic range of academic and extracurricular programs and receive guidance and support from all faculty members of SNU College. Therefore, 2025 will be a pivotal year for the College of Liberal Studies, marking a moment of new growth and greater vision.

I hope that you will take advantage of the broad opportunities offered by SNU College and the College of Liberal Studies and nurture your dreams of growing into a global leader.
